Narrative Theory, 30 Second Bunny Task

Propp and Todorov's Narrative Theory:

Propp suggested that characters took on the role of narrative functions, he came up with 7 different character types; the hero, the villain, the donor, the helper, the princess, the dispatcher and the false hero. This theory uses the 7 characters so that's audiences can easily identify the characters in the tv show/film.

Todorov suggested that narratives are structured in 5 stages;

1. A state of equilibrium at the outset.
2. A disruption of the equilibrium by an action.
3. A recognition that there has been a disruption.
4. An attempt to repair the disruption.
5. A reinstatement of the equilibrium.

This narrative structure is more applicable to mainstream film/ tv show narratives.
